The phrase My Corona, going down the shirt, was inspired by The Knack song, My Sharona. This was the song I had in my mind while designing the shirt.

One of the most profitable T-shirt designs are related to memes, trends and current events. A majority of the time, these categories intersect because of social media. To capitalize on this type of shirt, turn around time of designs must be quick.

For my meme shirt, I decided to use the COVID-19 or CoronaVirus event to make a meme shirt. I choose this topic because currently it is trending on social media sites such as Instagram.

Research

For research I looked on social media and google for CoronaVirus memes. This gave me ideas for designs for example, what images where associated with the key words and hashtags. I then settled on using a bottle design to represent both Coronavirus and Corona beer.

Illustrator

To make this T-shirt design I used my favorite Adobe program, Illustrator. The main tools I used were the text tool, rectangle tool, pen tool and shape builder tool.

Process

I began with a template of a bottle and face mask. I ended up using the bottle design instead of the face mask. This choice was made because I felt the bottle was more recognizable. Choosing the font proved difficult. I went down the list of fonts until I found one that fit the design, in this case Almaq Rough. Almaq Rough has a gritty feel that I felt worked with this meme that is both funny and morbid.

Saving The File

I saved this file as a PNG because it is a loss less format that works well on the web. I also saved it as a PNG because the shirt designs are in black and white. I did not need to save a large amount of color information.

What do you think is the most profitable type of T-shirt? How can I improve these T-shirt designs?

Thank you,

Perla
